If you have ever had a stubborn carpet stain, you know how frustrating it can be to get them up. Scrubbing doesn’t work, blotting doesn’t work, carpet cleaners don’t work—it just sits there as you do the house cleaning around it.
Given up on that stain? It might be time to try one last thing. From One Good Thing comes this amazing tip that works beautifully on carpet stains—especially pet stains—and will keep your stress at bay!
Step #1: Vinegar. Saturate the area with vinegar.
You don’t have to completely soak it, but you want all of the fibers to be good and wet to the touch.
Step #2: Baking Soda.
Sprinkle the entire area with baking soda, and be generous.
Step #3: Cover. Covering doesn’t have anything to do with the effectiveness, but it does have a lot to do with not getting baking soda all over the house! You can use a plate or even a pot lid for this as a reminder not to kick that spot.
Step #4: Wait. Wait a while—in fact, wait a day or two. This gives the vinegar time to break down the stain and the baking soda time to absorb it and dry out completely.
Step #5: Clean Up. After a day or two, when the baking soda is nice and dry (and likely turning the color of the stain!), sweep up the excess then vacuum the area completely.
Not only is this solution completely natural (so it’s safer for your pets and kids!), it appears to work even on stains a few months old. Will you try this trick, or do you have your own trick for getting up stains?
