When buying a new flooring option, the number one concern for most people, is how easy the upkeep of the new flooring will be. In order to get the best from your flooring, there are some handy tips that will go a long way in helping you care for your flooring.

TIMBER

Timber is an extremely stylish flooring option for your office or home. It is important that you maintain its appearance in order to keep it in peak condition for as long as possible.

Tips for timber floors:

  • When possible, make sure that sand, dirt, and grit do not pile up on thesurface of your floors. If left to accumulate, theywill act like sandpaper, making them wear away the finish.
  • Ensure that you place mats at all the outer exits. Keep the floor vacuumed or swept frequently.
  • Do not use a wet-mop on a hardwood floor. Remember to clean up any spills as soon as they occur.
  • Using water or any cleaning agent; ensure that you wring the mop thoroughly before using it on the floor. This is because wood flooring is easily damaged if you allow excess moisture to get into the seams between planks.

CORK

Cork is one of the flooring options that are easier to maintain.

Tips to caring for a cork floor:

  • When dusty, just sweep using a soft bristled mop or broom
  • When dirty, just wash it using warm water or any floor care product that may be recommended by the manufacturer.

VINYL

Generally, maintaining vinyl flooring is very easy.

Tips for vinyl flooring care:

  • After installing this type of floor, wash its surface using a combination of warm waterand a floor care product recommended by the manufacturer. Rinse properly with warm water.
  • For a dry floor, just use a damp mopwith a cleaning system recommended by the vinyl manufacturerand be sure to use them consistently. Vacuum, or use a damp mop, and sweep your floor frequently to get rid of grit and dust which could mark and scratch your floor.
  • Avoid using wax polishes, caustic ammonia, or solvent –based cleaners

LAMINATE FLOORING

Not only arelaminate type floors easy to clean but are also able to withstand all kinds of treatment.

Tips for laminate floors:

  • To get rid of dirt caused by daily wear and heavier traffic by children, guests, or pets; use a vacuum cleaner, a broom, or even a a damp cloth.
  • Avoid polishing, steam cleaning, or even adding a detergent to water as you clean. Only use the cleaning product that has been recommended by the manufacturer.
