If you’ve ever tried to clean limescale, you know it can be a struggle. Even when you attack it with your regular cleaners, it won’t budge. Going at them with your normal methods will just leave you frustrated.
However, there’s a house cleaning tool that’s extremely effective against limescale, and it might already be sitting in your refrigerator.
The Magic Power of Lemon
Lemon is a great natural cleaner, known for its ability to cut through grease and soften stains. It’s no different when dealing with limescale: the acidic nature of lemon juice cuts through the limescale and loosens it enough that it will flake off.
Kelly at Imperfect Homemaking uses lemons to clean her limescale, and she included directions on her post. If you’re looking for a way to treat those crusty stains, this will help:
Step 1: Cut a lemon in half and rub it on the limescale. Cutting the lemon in half gives the limescale the most exposure to the lemon juice as well as making it easier to hold while you’re using it.
Step 2: Let it sit for 10 minutes. This is more important than you might realize. Many people, in all types of cleaning, tend to get impatient and clean right away. If you let solutions sit on the surface for a few minutes, you give it more time to activate.
Step 3: Scrub it clean. Use a scrub brush or scraper to flake the limescale off once it’s loosened up by the lemon juice.
Step 4: Rinse.
Rinse off the lemon juice and rinse away the limescale to get back your clean sink or shiny fixtures. If you need to repeat, do so until it comes completely clean.
